Balan started as a winery in 1962 . The founder, Sergio Balan, turned thus to profit the experience he had acquired working with his father Giuseppe and his grand father Geremia: they had all been farmers, but with a strong inclination for winemaking. During World War II, Giuseppe had to leave the family business; at that time his wife, Rosa Stella, played a key role.
The first winery of Sergio Balan was the garage of the family home, which is still in front of the current headquarters of the company. The headquarters were built in 1966 in Trebaseleghe, not far away from Venice, and later they have been expanded up to the actual 3.600 mq, surrounded by a 5 ha vineyard. He has gradually expanded the company, which now has two production sites, for a total of seventy hectars directly controlled, six thousand square meters of facilities for vinification, aging, bottling, distributing. Sergio was able to achieve all this also thanks to the help of his wife, Attilia and, later, his sons Fabio and Daniele. Today the reins are held by Fabio and Daniele Balan, Sergio’s sons.
Since the end of the Eighties, while maintaining the traditional winemaking activity, that is constantly improving both from a quantitative and qualitative point of view, Balan’s starts distributing some prestigious wines and spirits.
Four generations of hard work, a perpetual effort towards innovation, synergies between the two activities (production and distribution), several deals with great producers and most of all an inexhaustible passion for wine, made Balan one of the main players in the Italian wine market.
