Winery
n the early '80s in Arzachena, Sardinia, Fabrizio and Mario Ragnedda first sensed the great potential of Vermentino.
They find the Vermentino di Gallura, produced in the Capichera family vineyards, is a high profile white wine capable of competing with the finest wines in the world.
It is perceived that something quite would be created from the extraordinary combination of this wine variety and its granitic coastal soil.
Adopting innovative techniques, they set new quality standards and made their wines know by the name of Capichera.
First in the world to have made Vermentino in barriques, they have produced single-vineyard wines since the very beginning.
Capichera is the symbol of Italian Vermentino in the world and is credited with the oenological re-evaluation and renaissance in Sardinia. Thanks to the history and uniqueness of its wine, today Capichera is considered the benchmark for Vermentino all over the world.
In the '90s the Ragnedda family acquired two new properties - in Olbia and Palau - where Syrah and Carignano were planted to produce reds Assajé, Mantènghja and Albòri di Làmpata.
At present Capichera totals approximately fifty hectars of vineyards located in some of the most dedicated areas in Sardinia.
Vermentino, an Italian wine heritage, is one of the greatest whites in the world today with Capichera as the reference point.
Territory
The Capichera vineyards are located in the northern region of Sardinia called Gallura. The geological history and features of this area have created its characteristic landscape with an abundance of granite rock which, upon erosion, produces loose acid to sub-acid sandy soils that are rich in potassium yet with a low phosphorous and nitrogen content.
Vermentino is an Italian wine heritage with its chosen territory on coastal land in Gallura. Fabrizio and Mario Ragnedda have made Vermentino their flagship wine and by the '80s and '90s had already reached a leading position on the Italian market.
