In Serralunga d’Alba, public and private life has always been entwined with wine. A fourteenth century law stated May no man dare to cut or have someone cut the vines in the vineyards of Serralunga, with ill intent, else he be fined the sum of twenty five lira.
Twelve denari was the fine payable by anyone caught stealing grapes.
Serralunga d’Alba is a picturesque medieval village with a population of about 500, set on a splendid hill in the Langhe district, in the heart of the area where Barolo is produced, 414 m above sea level. It was initially known as Serralonga Albensium Pompeianorum and the name reflected its geographic position: the territory is made up of a strip of land measuring 7100 m long and just 1800 m wide at its widest, surrounded by hilly ridges that protect it from winds and storms. The village is dominated by its imposing castle, dating back to the 14th century, built between 1340 and 1350 by the Falletti family, Marquises of Barolo. The Fallettis, bankers whose fortunes were based largely on commercial activities and exchange, held a fundamental.
Located in the historic centre of Serralunga d’Alba, our wine cellar was once very small, built into the marl below the house that was the birthplace of much of our family.
In those times, the complicated social situation, combined with economic hardship, imposed a complex reality on people, with a focus on self-sustenance; because of this, crops were diversified, grains and nuts were produced and Piedmontese cattle were raised.
Midway through the 30s, we moved, if you can say that, to the other side of the only road that crosses the village of Serralunga, situated on the top of one of the most beautiful hills of the Langhe, in Piedmont.
Below the family estate we have organised the first vinification and aging department!
The years pass, times change and little by little we have had the luck to be able to exclusively follow our passion, dedicating all of our energy to the production of grapes and wine. All the expansions to the production departments have always been made in respect of the fantastic harmony of the medieval village of Serralunga d’Alba, known as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Tenacious and persistent, we did not want to leave the historic centre, so further expansions were made underground, where our wines can be born and mature in optimal conditions.
Today, thanks to the completion of our ambitious renovation project that has kept the historic structure of our family estate intact, another one of our dreams is coming true: that of having the living areas needed to welcome wine lovers from all over the world and make them feel at home.
