Il Balzo
Podere il Balzo dominates with its medieval tower one of the most suggestive hills overlooking the left bank of the Sieve river, a tributary of the Arno, in the heart of the Chianti Rufina production area. Part of a historic estate very famous for the production of wines, it was bought by the Ponticelli family in the 70s who revalued the property by now in decline by investing both in the renovation of the building and in the replanting of the vineyards and in the modernization of the cellar.
The property extends over a total of 20 hectares of which 7 are vineyards and the others are partly wooded and partly dedicated to olive groves.
The production of wine has always been a family tradition but it is only since the 2006 vintage that Paolo Ponticelli carries out the first bottling of Chianti Rufina Docg “Podere il Balzo”. With the 2011 vintage the Riserva version followed is also offered to the market
then from a small production of white wine and, "miracle of nature" in September 2015, from the red wine "Addiaccio".
