Tenuta San Guido and Sassicaia and are two symbols of the Made in Italy in the winemaking, known and respected worldwide. In order to create a myth, it is always needed an important story behind. The one of Tenuta San Guido starts in the 20's, when Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, a student at the University of Pisa, has the great dream of making a great wine, in the wake of the great reds of Bordeaux.
After several experiments in the vineyard, he comes to the decision to plant Cabernet, because of the similarity between the soil of Tuscany and Graves in Bordeaux; that is the origin of the name Sassicaia, right from the stony character of the area where the vines grow.
The first vintages of Sassicaia are greeted with some skepticism, given the substantial novelty of a wine oriented to France and not to the vines of the Peninsula. Anyway, efforts and farsightedness of Tenuta San Guido are completely rewarded and in the years the reputation of these bottles has had a strong increment, assuming the character of myth. This applies not only to the Sassicaia: Guidalberto and Le Difese are such absolutely precious names and deserve high esteem by all true lovers of great wine.
This confirms even more expertise and the valuable daily work of one of the most important Italian wine, Tenuta San Guido.
