Soil characteristics

Saia, its name taken from the Arab word for the irrigation canals built centuries ago to collect rainwater, is made with 100 percent Nero d’Avola, an extraordinary grape capable of producing intense, full bodied wines. The alberello method of cultivation and the aging in French oak make it a wine that stands alone in its category.

L'azienda Feudo Maccari nasce nel 2000 grazie a Moretti. L'azienda si estende per 1000 tumoli (antica unità di misura dell'isola di Sicilia per la quale 1 tumulo è eguale a 1744 metri quadrati), tra vigneti, siepi e fichi d'india e l'ombra fresca degli alberi di carrubo, tra ulivi e mandorleti in fiore, le palme nane impotenti e i fertili limoneti, spuntano gli splendidi e suggestivi impianti ad alberello di Nero d'Avola. L'azienda è divisa in tre corpi sparsi sulle colline accarezzate notte e giorno dalla brezza marina. Infine il punto più alto dell'azienda, una terrazza sullo Jonio e sull'oasi naturale di Vendìcari, la zona di contrada
