Our family has a long history of winemaking. A tradition dating back to 1861.
Around thirty years ago, my wife Monika and I have dedicated our work to the vinification of high-quality wines. Because it's quality that counts, not quantity. In the past years, our family business has reached the top rankings of South Tyrolean winemakers thanks to our effort and hard work, and with many distinctions, prizes and excellent appraisal. But we never forget our ambitions: to continue the steady growth and to remain nevertheless a small but fine, individuall and autarkic winery. The Vineyards
The vineyards are the foundation for our unique wines and their strong character.
Montagna is an idyllic place on the oriental hang just above Rocca Castelfeder. An area rife with steep slopes, precious terraces and a mild, alpine-continental climate. In the heart of this unique producing area you will find our new, energy-efficient wine cellars. Other than in Montagna, our winery has vineyards in Cortaccia as well as in Egna, where our autochthonal grape varieties like Lagrein or Vernaccia grow. Therewith, we have a natural variety of territories characterized by a rich soil and cultivated by us according to natual principles.
The Vineyards Montagna
The hamlets Glen and Langefeld on 600 a.s.l. are home of the figurehead of our winery, the Pinot Nero Matan while the Fuchsleiten vineyard is home to our Pinot Nero Fuchsleiten, our Gewürztraminer and our Sauvignon.
This is where our new wine cellars are situated. The vines have all the advantages of natural cultivation and grow on loamy and porphyry soils. The Langefeld site with its hangs gently sloping towards south and its glacial moraine soil offers perfect conditions for out Pinot Nero and for our notorious white wines: Sauvignon, Müller Thurgau and Pinot Bianco.
Wine Cellars
The formal purity and minimalism of our winery reflects the fresh and idiosyncratic wines we produce.
The wine cellar in the underground benefits from the freshness of the ground and is dominated by a clever variety of colours. The walls shine in yellow, red and blue three colours representing our white and red wines. But it's not only design that matters: our cellars are constructed in an energy-efficient way. Our excellently insulated underground cellar floor has reduced the heating and refrigeration costs to a minimum. This allows us to save energy during the most intensive process of our production chain: the maturation and storage of our wine.
