The link between the Family Cotarella and the world of wine has its origins in the Sixties, when Antonio and Domenico Cotarella, growers in Monterubiaglio, made the first winery to produce their own wine. The brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella, both winemakers grew up in a land of long winemaking traditions, driven by the passion of their father Domenico, then founded in 1979 the current Falesco, turning what was a small family business into a successful company to leave to future generations.

The investments made since then, have undoubtedly been of great importance, but today, after more than thirty years, can be considered amply rewarded, especially in affective terms. In the family business, in fact, currently work their daughters Dominga, Marta and Enrica, with the same enthusiasm and involvement of their fathers. The fourth generation of grandchildren, then, suggests a future just as important for the brand Falesco.
From the global offer one can infer the great investment on and care for the local indigenous varieties (i.e. Ferentano, Passirò, Pomele, Poggio dei Gelsi, Ets!Est!!Est!!!, Grechetto) but also experimentation and research on the adaptability of international varieties (Merlot,Cabernet S., Cabernet Franc) which have been extremely successful especially with Montiano and Marciliano. Riccardo Cotarella is the winemaker and Pier Paolo Chiasso coordinates the technical and production staff.
On the nose it presents a rich range of olfactory sensations from banana to pineapple from vegetal to vanilla scents. The taste is powerful, rich soft and full, with an excellent long lingering finish
Territory
The area on which our vineyards extend, between Lake Bolsena in Lazio, and the town of Orvieto in Umbria, is a hilly area with similar climatic and soil conditions, as evidenced by the long winemaking traditions of these places particularly suitable for viticulture. If Orvieto, in fact, is known, since the most ancient times, as Oinarea, or "the city where wine flows," centuries ago, the Alto Lazio enjoyed of a reputation coming from the production of outstanding wines, exclusive of the papal or nobility's canteens, which has recently been rediscovered thanks to the work of development that led Falesco around microvarieties and old clones almost extinct in this region.
In the area of Montefiascone, in particular, the vineyards, planted on sandy soils, rich in volcanic lava, phosphorus and potassium, are exposed throughout the year to a mild, rainy winters and hot summers, important to record differences in temperature between day and night.
The area of Montecchio is instead characterized by very cold winters and very hot summers, partially mitigated by the presence of Corbara Lake, not far from our Estate in Umbria. The soil here is clay, calcareous, fertile enough and deep, rich in white pebbles and important micro-elements, such as ammonium phosphate, potassium, magnesium and boron.
Estates Lazio
The area between Montefiascone and Lake Bolsena, in the province of Viterbo, welcomes the first winery built in 1979 and the historic vineyards of the company. Here, on a soil, part of volcanic nature, and part sedimentary, are cultivated 100 hectares planted with the vines of Roscetto, Aleatico, Trebbiano and Malvasia, and some international varieties like Merlot, Syrah e Viognier, which demonstrate the vocation to quality of the lands in Lazio.
Estases Umbria
In the town of Montecchio, on the hill south of Orvieto, is situated the new cellar of 10,000 square meters, opened in 2004. A modern structure, equipped with the best technologies, which is surrounded by 260 hectares planted with Merlot, Cabernet, Sangiovese, Verdicchio and Vermentino, and where also have been planted numerous experimental varieties in collaboration with the University of Tuscia in Viterbo, ranging from Nero d'Avola to Primitivo, Malbec, from the Tannat to Montepulciano and Teroldego.
