ver since I can remember, my life has been in the vineyards, among the grapes, and in the cellars.
First, with the charming background of sturdy vines and shady rows, the wonderful taste of sweet grapes and the merry feasting after the harvest. Then, with the sharp smell of a fermentation cellar and the first tastings guided by expert hands. Finally, with the fascination of personally caring for the vines and creating excellent wines from the finest grapes. This is my world today.
My strength lies in understanding three factors soil, vines, weather and in interpreting them and working with them. That is how original and unique products are created. With those slight differences from one year to the next that are the exclusive characteristic of nature's authentic products.
I spend part of my time in consulting work, which I carry out personally in wine estates in Italy and Europe, putting together all my knowledge and experience of wine grower and wine maker. Offering not just concrete help but also my personal point of view to others makes me feel I am contributing to spread the culture of premium wines. This also takes time.
The estate
was established to create exciting and unique wines; wines that charm and tell their own special story.
My aim was, and still is, to produce wines of character. The Donà Noir Pinot Noir was the first accomplished wine to reflect the soil characteristics, the special microclimate ... and my style. Another two followed, Donà Rouge and Donà Blanc. They only reach full maturity after about four years ageing.
The range has now widened to include four fresh and elegant whites, produced and bottled as monovarietal wines Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer and an elegant Lagrein.
Every year we produce in total 35,000 to 40,000 bottles, which reflect the passion and the manual work carried out with great respect for nature in the vineyards and the cellar.
The whole wine-growing and wine-making process is based on my own ideas of how to create excellent wines. That makes me a nonconformist. But also a man who loves the wines he produces and wants to take them where sensitive people can appreciate these nectars of excellence.
Donà wines are a living product of nature, coined by our unique mountain landscape. They are the result of extremely sustainable production processes in the vineyards and in the cellar.
The main characteristics of Donà wines are elegance, harmony, alpine freshness and minerality. They express a remarkable capacity for development and are therefore extraordinarily long-lived. All qualities that lead to exciting, deep and persistent wines, attracting the attention of connoisseurs. Wines that do some good.
Behind the creation of each wine is a desire to bring to life something absolutely special from the local vines ? for example, by rediscovering and reinterpreting the partly forgotten and underrated potential of some 40-50 year old vines, as in the case of the local Schiava grapes of Donà Rouge. Or by refining wines in wooden barrels for nearly two years and subsequently age them in the bottles to develop their character, sapidity and suasion.
I am interested in wines that do not follow conventions but express boldly and proudly their distinct personality.
