Albino Rocca - Barbera d'Alba Superiore "Gepin" 2017 Ml. 750
Winery
Characteristic
Our history starts in the mid 1940’s when Albino Rocca’s father Giacomo started in the wine business initially selling grapes from family vineyards and later making his own wine that was sold in demijohn.
Thanks to the inheritance of some of our most precious vineyards in the 1960’s our grandfather was able to start what is now our winery Albino Rocca. Albino’s hard work and his strong support of our father Angelo Rocca laid the foundation that created a family winemaking tradition that has grown internationally over the years.
Our history has been built together, year by year. First through the gradual acquisition of vineyards and the production of not only Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto and Barbera in addition to our continuous effort to evolve the quality of our Barbaresco which starts in the vineyards and continues in the cellar.
Vigna Ronchi
Ronchi vineyard is the Cru that best represents our winery. Our winery is located on the top of this vineyard.
Ronchi is the oldest and largest part of our estate extending almost 3 hectars with excellent south – east exposure with limestone and clay soil rich in minerals and stratified with layers of “tufo”. It was planted over 50 years ago with some vines over 70 years old.
This vineyard has the ideal combination of age, soil characteristics and exposure and produces wines with rich aromas, excellent structure, complexity and longevity.
Our Barbaresco Ronchi is aged 20 months in 20-hectoliter Austrian and German oak barrels.
Barbaresco Riserva Ronchi is also produced from this vineyard with a very limited production and is made exclusively in the best years.
Ovello Vigna Loreto
Ovello is located in the town of Barbaresco and is one of the oldest and largest historic crus of Barbaresco. Vigna Loreto is one of our oldest family vineyards of Nebbiolo on the southwest slope overlooking the Tanaro River, it is 45 years old.
Vigna Loreto is only half a hectare, which gives us a total annual production of 2,600 bottles which are aged entirely in one large oak barrel.
This picturesque vineyard has clay-limestone soil, but also has the presence of sand, which brings out the elegance of Nebbiolo.
Vigna Loreto has fresh and fruity aromas with a light tannic structure and a wonderful finesse of flavors.
Vigna Montersino
Our vineyard in the Montersino Cru was planted in 1998.
The vineyard is about half a hectar and is located at the southern tip of the Barbaresco winegrowing region in San Rocco seno d’Elvio (a small hamlet outside of Alba). Montersino has a southern exposure with a higher altitude than Barbaresco. The steep slopes have clay and limestone soil with thin layers of sandstone and tufo, which brings out the natural elegance of Nebbiolo, both in the nose and the mouth.
Our Barbaresco Montersino is aged for 20 months in 20 hectoliter Austrian and German oak barrels.
