Borgogno

The history of Barolo begins with Borgogno and preserves its classicism intact. We are in the mid-eighteenth century and thanks to Bartolomeo Borgogno the Nebbiolo grapes began to be vinified according to modern parameters, so much so as to raise Piedmontese wines to national prestige. The Unification of Italy was to produce an emblematic and representative wine of the nation: Borgogno was served at the royal lunch that marks this historic event. In the 1920s, Cesare Borgogno took over the company management and began exporting. International fame contributes to the economic esteem of wine, so much so that in 1972 a Borgogno from 1886 was sold for 530,000 lire. In the eighties, his sons Cesare and Giorgio Boschis took over, until the purchase in 2008 by the Farinetti family who returned to the use of cement and oversaw the conversion to organic. La Borgogno has a cellar in the center of the municipality of Barolo and boasts spectacular vineyards in the Liste, Fossati and Cannubi crus. It is necessary to wait for a maturation of at least 46 months in large barrels to see the birth of an excellent Barolo da Cru, destined to last endless years. In all our owned vineyards, we only use fertilizers of organic origin, we do not use herbicides and we carry out sustainable treatments. For this reason, our grapes have zero residue, and clean grapes are essential for producing quality wines. Since 2016 we have started the Conversion that will lead us with the 2019 harvest to be Certified Organic. Our countryside of about 39 hectares, of which 8 are planted with woods and 31 are planted with vines. About 60% is grown in Nebbiolo, the remainder is divided between Dolcetto, Barbera and Freisa. 5 of these hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of white grape varieties, respectively 2 hectares cultivated in Riesling and 3 in Timorasso. Then the great fortune of owning 5 of the best cru vineyards in Barolo: Liste, Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, San Pietro delle Viole.
