Martina and Vittorio .... "In Aesop's fable we are a bit like the turtle, it took us a while but in the end we arrived ..... and we haven't stopped yet, quite the contrary! The label wants to highlight the verticality of our territory, and the effort, but at the same time the tenacity we put in every day to climb "the summit" ". The Sorpasso company was founded in 2012 by Martina Ghirardo, architect, and Vittorio Garda, oenologist, partners and companions in life, from the beginning with rented vineyards over time that became property. The currently cultivated area is 1 hectare on different parcels / terraces located in the municipality of Carema, the last Piedmontese town before the Aosta Valley, 85% of which is cultivated with Nebbiolo, locally called "Picotendro", and the rest with vines autochthonous (Neretto, Ner d'Ala and Erbaluce). The altitude of the vineyards varies from 350 to 650 meters above sea level 2/3 of which are grown with the classic pergola, in the dialect "topia", the remaining ones with traditional espalier, the age of the vineyard varies from 10 to 70 years, all operations are carried out strictly and necessarily by hand. The vinification is traditional and focused on the enhancement of the vineyard from which they select only perfectly ripe grapes and then process them separately in the cellar according to the vine of origin, the wine matures two years in barrels and then is put on the market. Their first Carema Doc wine is that of the 2016 harvest.
