Castello Di Monsanto

In 1960 Fabrizio bought the property, thanks to his wife Giuliana, he began to plant new vineyards and from here begins an incredible story of love, passion and joy towards wine and everything that surrounds it. Two years pass, we are in 1962 Fabrizio is baptized for the first time within the Chianti Classico Denomination, the grapes of the Il Poggio vineyard: the Primo Cru of Chianti Classico is born. We are in 1968 Fabrizio decides to eliminate the white berried grapes (Trebbiano and Malvasia) then compulsorily required by the Regulations from the Poggio blend. Also in 1968 he decided to also eliminate the stalks in fermentation and the use, then very practiced, of the "Government to Tuscany" (a refermentation technique with the addition of grapes harvested later) thus creating a wine of greater complexity and balance suitable for long aging in the cellar. In 1986, work began on the construction of the underground tunnel. The enterprise of building 300 meters of underground tunnel by hand for the storage of wooden barrels, using only marl stones from the break-in of the vineyards, with the medieval technique of wooden ribs to give shape to a very long and suggestive Etruscan arch lowered. Six long years have passed, so in 1992, the work is done. The company extends for 72 hectares planted with vineyards, at an altitude that varies between 260 and 310 meters above sea level, 56 Ha are in Sangiovese. The Sangiovese clones present in the vineyards come from mass selections of the vines found in the Il Poggio vineyard, "the mother" of all the Monsanto vineyards. In a small percentage there are also the two historical vines of the Chianti Classico blend: Canaiolo and Colorino. In 1976 Fabrizio Bianchi decided to experiment with two non-native vines: he planted the Valdigallo vineyard, where today the Fabrizio Bianchi Chardonnay is produced, and the Il Mulino vineyard which, due to its pedo-climatic characteristics, is the ideal place for the production of Cabernet Sauvignon.
