On the gentle hills of Montalbano, a few kilometers from Carmignano, in the province of Prato, is the Fattoria di Bacchereto, an estate of 167 hectares at an altitude of between 200 and 500 meters above sea level. The estate includes meadows, forests, extensive orchards, vast chestnut trees, 60 hectares of olive trees from which it produces oil, and vineyards, which occupy about 8 acres. On the estate, founded in the fifteenth century, the family de 'Medici loved to hunt, and even today you can see the ruins of the wall of the royal park. Since 1925 the company became property of the family Bencini Tesi, but the turning point towards the modern happens in the '60s, when you start the industrial production of oil and wine and organizes the welcome to visitors in a modern farm . Today the estate is run by Rossella Bencini Tesi, assisted by Marco Vannucci and Adriano Zago, winemaker and cellar man of great experience, who in 2002 started practicing biodynamic agriculture, leading to the revolution of all the traditional wine-growing and the system vinification cellar. In the vineyard fertilization has been replaced by green manure, against diseases of the vine are used exclusively sulfur and copper, and the eradication of weeds is performed entirely by hand; in the cellar yeasts are those, absolutely natural and indigenous, who are on the skins; the wine is stored in large "tonneau" of wood and is bottled unfiltered. In the vineyards predominates Trebbiano grapes typical of the area, but the wine of the estate is the Carmignano, an intense blend of Sangiovese, black Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small part of Trebbiano, which obtained the recognition of biodynamic wine Triple A.
