Rosset Terroir

Due to geographical, physical and climatic limitations, Aosta Valley has always been a “harsh” territory, difficult for wine producers who, precisely for this reason, do not achieve quantity as their primary objective, but quality. The Rosset Terroir farm has always bet on this aspect, investing with conviction in the territory.

The company’s history began in 2001, when the Rosset family decided to cultivate their land, in the Senin of Saint-Christophe, with vines. The first cultivated plot is about three hectares and sees the international rooted cuttings ofChardonnay as the first planting, followed by Syrah and the autochthonous Cornalin. After that, making an expansion, Petit Rouge was planted. This is a native grape variety carefully selected by Matteo Moretto, the company’s agronomist and winemaker.

In recent years the company has invested in two suitable areas. In Chambave, where the Chambave Muscat Vallée d’Aoste DOP comes from, and in Villeneuve, where in extreme places at over 900 meters altitude, Petite Arvine and Pinot Gris are grown.

In few years, this small private company has been able to distinguish itself and carve out an important space in the wine sector, bringing Aosta Valley to some of the most important international stages.

CHAMBAVE

The white muscat is planted at an altitude of 800 meters in the areas of Champlan and Meyaz. These places are located in the historical district of the homonymous wine, in the municipality of Chambave. The sandy and rocky soil makes possible the birth of a smooth and balanced wine that is also characterized by a nice salinity.

SAINT-CHRISTOPHE

The core of the company is located on the hill of Aosta, into the Commune of Saint-Christophe, at an altitude comprised between 750 and 800 meters. In 2001, between the localities of Senin and Thuvex, they have been planted the Chardonnay and the native Cornalin. Instead, the planting of the Petit Rouge is more recent. In that zone, the soil presents a high percentage of backbone which makes it sandy and rocky.Near to the vineyard, there also are the raspberries plantation and the saffron field. Further up, in the village of Le Croux, the new vineyard that will see its first results in few years is under construction.

VILLENEUVE

The highest vineyards of the company are located into the municipality of Villeneuve. The Petit Arvine and the Pinot Gris are born on slopes that graze the 50%, and at an elevation which is comprised between 900 and 1000 meters. In that place, the soil is sandy and silty, extremely rich in slate, quartz and granite. Here is born the Sopraquota 900, which owes its name to these impervious areas.
