Conterno Giacomo

We are in 1900 in Monforte D'Alba the Giacomo Conterno Winery was born, descendant of a family of winemakers active in the area since 1800. In 1912 the first Barolo was bottled thanks to his son Giovanni. In 1934 thanks to Giacomo, Barolo Monfortino was born. In 1974 Giacomo bought the Cascina Francia vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba: there are 14 hectares of land particularly suited for the cultivation of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes. In the vineyard, the cultivation is conventional, careful pruning, elimination of excess bunches, harvest in the best period: simple and ancient measures that are very useful for obtaining excellent wines. The wine that comes from this exceptional soil does not need forcing, but it is sufficient to exalt to the maximum what nature has made available. Roberto Conterno's cellar is like a museum, an oenological sanctuary, guardian of a priceless heritage. More than a century of activity, imposing barrels and verticals of Barolo Francia and Monfortino, which have been resting for decades, are for the visitor a memorable journey backwards, marked by a formidable knowledge of wine and many, scrupulous harvests; a cross-section of Langhe tradition and author wines that surprise and fascinate with every sip
