Kuenhof
The origins of the Kuenhof company date back to the 12th century: at that time the farm was owned by the Bishops of Bressanone, but has been owned by the Pliger family for about 200 years. We are in the Isarco Valley in the province of Bressanone, exposed mainly to the south-east, making up the northernmost wine-growing area in Italy. Distributed at a height between 550 and 700 meters. Kuenhof is a cru of less than 6 hectares. Soils composed of clayey sands and shale rocks, the exposure of the vineyards to the South-East, its dry and well-ventilated climate make these vines the ideal habitat for the four whites produced: Sylvaner, Riesling, Veltliner and Terlano Aromatico. We are at the end of the 90s when another very important turning point of this winery: the transition to organic farming. All this thanks to the love of Pliger who cultivates only the hectares that he manages to manage himself, because «only I take care of my plants. Even in the cellar the vinification takes place according to the decalogues of organic production. No sulphites or sugars. In this way we can have mineral and savory wines when young and enveloping and seductive with a few years of aging. The strong character and freshness of these wines originates from the harsh mountain climate.
